Ancien catalogue des périodiques
The 'Black Books' are a set of 736 bound volumes containing nearly a million catalogue records drawn up by the librarians of the Kaiserliche Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek zu Straßburg between 1871 and 1918. These records constitute the library's original catalogue in alphabetical order by author; they were initially intended for use by the staff, and were kept in boxes. After the First World War, to allow public access to the catalogue, the records were transferred to books by the librarians, under the guidance of Ernest Wickersheimer.
A word about 'Alsatica'
The Alsatica.eu portal is intended to serve as a one-stop access portal for the greatest possible number of documentary resources present in municipal, local and university libraries, documentation centres, and archives throughout Alsace.
The University Documentation System ("SUDOC") brings together more than nine million catalogue records for all kinds of documents (documents on paper, e-documents, audiovisual items, microforms, etc) in a collective French catalogue compiled by the libraries and documentation centres of institutions of higher education and research. The BNU is the most important contributor to the catalogue for the number of records contributed (more than 1.1 million).
