The Decree of 15 January 1992 amended by the Decree of 8 September 2010 gave the BNU a new Board of Administration, comprising 29 elected or co-opted members, who are natural or legal persons, plus a further 11 members with consultative status.
The Chairman of the BNU's Board of Administration is Jacques Le Rider.
The Administration brings together all the services surrounding the institution's Administrator: the general secretariat, the 'New BNU' mission, the 'Training and Internal Communication' mission, the 'Cultural Action' mission, and International Relations & External Communication.
The Directorate of Collection Development covers the departments for the acquisition of monographs and periodicals, electronic resources, legal deposit, and incoming items.
The Directorate of Conservation and Heritage, headed by its Director, covers the department in charge of the reserve stacks, the restoration workshop, the iconography and cartography department, the digital library department, and book equipment.
The Directorate of the Information System is responsible for management of the IT Resources Centre and the retro-conversion and cataloguing departments.
The Directorate of Services for the Public is responsible for the departments in contact with the public, the shuttle service, and inter-library borrowing.
