The library is open to anyone over the age of 18 (or who has passed the baccalaureate examination).
Parental authorisation is required for anyone under 18.
Anyone wishing to consult items at the library must first be registered.
To make it easier for you, the BNU offers on-line pre-registration, so that you will be able to order items immediately.
It will only take you a few minutes to prepare your visit by using the pre-registration form:
An annual card is issued to people domiciled in Alsace or nearby (in an adjacent département in France, or in the Strasbourg-Ortenau district), to students and teaching and research staff domiciled in the Upper Rhine region (EUCOR), post-graduate students, members of the teaching and research staff of a French university or research institution who are domiciled in France.
The card allows its holder to consult items at the library, to borrow items, and to register free of charge with the libraries of the Strasbourg SICD (ask the registration office for an attestation).
For further information on registration, please consult the Regulations, particularly Articles 2, 3 and 4.
A temporary card is issued free of charge for a maximum of two weeks. It gives access to the two reading rooms for consulting items at the library.
To obtain this card you will need to produce a personal identity document.
Users are personally responsible for their cards and any items they borrow. If a card is lost or stolen, the registration office must be notified so that use of the card may be blocked. If this happens, a charge will be made to cover the cost of replacing the card.
